January Sales and A Juicy Return
by ateliermotives
Ayyyyy! Everyone and their mother are having huge end-of-the-season sales. It is joyously painful because I want to buy everything. It has been a bit now since New Year’s, but I have been meaning to write about my fabulous year’s end find. It was discovered in a less than obvious place: Juicy Couture. Do not be scared. This is not a brand I normally follow because we all know velour sweats=never ok. Juicy has been struggling to regain a fashionable status for a while now, even before founders Gela Nash-Taylor and Pamela Skaist-Levy gave up their design helms in Spring 2010. Later that year, department stores began to cut back on Juicy inventory and a few passed on the Fall line, but some still carried their higher-end Bird collection. It seems the company has slowly been regaining a stylish stance. I popped into their Fifth Avenue flagship on December 30th to look for a New Year’s Eve dress. And I was dumbfounded. They had some really cute things! And the top floor had a huge sale-on-sale section. Win. Does this mean I am now well on my way to becoming a “Juicy Girl”? Is it scary that I may not mind approaching such a title?
Back to my outfit.
For New Years, I am (and was) very much over the idea of sparkles and sequins. It’s so overdone, and I wanted to not look like everyone else. A black tie/tuxedo theme seemed demure and androgynously sexy, but I had already done that for a Christmas party. No repeats here, not for the fête circuit anyway…

I, sadly, do not have the humility of Mobama. To my delight and absolute surprise, I found a great dress at Juicy! And half off already-on-sale! It was a floor-length, long sleeve dress with a side slit. The maxi came in three shades of slinky silk jersey and I chose the “Macaw” color; a pretty, bright emerald shade, which just happens to be a major color trend this winter. I gave into a little sparkle and topped it with my favorite chunky J.Crew crystal necklace. Tall, nothing-special black suede heels finished it off. And it was a hit! I felt super glam but comfy. Bonus: totally pulled my own Angelina. Boom. Sadly, said dress is at the dry cleaners, so I cannot post it! A photo from Juicy.com will have to do.
Any fab New Year’s outfits you wore or witnessed? Post below!
